Travel Makeup Must-Haves

Travel season is upon us and whether you’re going to a wedding, soaking up some rays by the beach or road tripping to explore a new city, trying to pick which beauty products to pack can be a challenge. I try to bring versatile items that can work for both day or night since suitcase space is usually limited. This cute cosmetic case from Poverty Flats by rian (c/o) is perfect for summer trips. The geometric pattern is really fun, plus it’s very durable and just the right size for my must-have makeup products. Below are the beauty essentials that I can’t leave home without!

When it comes to skincare while traveling, I like to keep things pretty simple and natural. In addition to face wash and makeup remover, you’ll always find bareMinerals powder foundation in my cosmetic case. The lightweight coverage lets my skin breathe and won’t melt off my face in hot, humid climates. Plus it has some SPF, which is always a plus! To create a summer, sun kissed look I top it off with some bronzer. I really like the natural look of this Smashbox compact. You can gradually build the color so that it doesn’t look like you have orange streaks along your cheeks. I also bring this Urban Decay concealer in case I get any breakouts and this Laura Mercier undereye concealer to hide any dark circles from lack of sleep or fatigue from traveling.

Now for eye makeup. My daily essentials include eye shadow, liner, mascara and brow color. I really like the shade of this Kevyn Aucoin shadow because it looks natural during the day and can be applied more heavily for going out in the evenings. Plus it works well with this smoke-colored liner that I swear by! After that I apply some volumizing mascara. I’ve tried quite a few, but always come back to Perversion by Urban Decay because it goes on so even and smooth (plus it comes in a travel size!). Finally I fill in my brows since they are pretty sparse and light colored. This Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade is really easy to apply and helps my eyes pop while still looking natural.

Also, don’t forget a neutral nail polish! I usually give my self an at-home mani before traveling and then bring that color for touch ups. I like this Pinky Promise color because it goes with pretty much every outfit. Plus the Sally Hansen gel formula doesn’t chip as easily as my regular polishes. Lotion is also a beauty must! I discovered this Hello, Legs! product in the spring FabFitFun box and fell in love with it. It makes my legs look smooth and moisturized which is important for dress weather. Last but not least, lipstick! Since I’m somewhat of a newbie to lip color I like to buy those sample packs that are usually featured at the front of the store or gift section. They are they perfect size for traveling and you get to try more than one shade!

  • This is a great round-up of products! I always pack my Stila Stay All Day foundation, since it never disappoints. That’s a good idea to bring your nail polish color with you. I always forget to do that and then I have to scrounge around to find nail polish remover because I hate when my nails start to chip!
