Red Carpet Trends at the Oscars

To me, the red carpet fashion is the highlight of the Oscars. I’m not a big movie person and probably haven’t seen any of the nominated films (although Frozen is at the top of my to-see list!), but I love checking out the latest trends that the celebrities are sporting. Many of the styles can be adapted to everyday life and the red carpet was a great preview to the upcoming spring styles. Below are some of my favorite trends that were spotted at the star-studded event.

Statement necklaces¬† are very versatile because they can add extra sparkle to a gown or can be worn with a casual ensemble. Jennifer Lawrence’s statement necklace dangled low in the back, which was a fun, unique touch to her chic, red dress. My favorite way to wear this trend on a daily basis is with distressed jeans, a simple v-neck T-shirt, heels and a necklace that adds a pop of color.

Neutral tones were popular on the red carpet, too. From Jessica Biel’s nude nails to Cate Blanchett’s embellished gown, this hue can be worn several ways. When it comes to beauty products, nude lipstick creates a natural, yet beautiful look especially when complimented with soft waves and minimal eye makeup. I also love the illusions that this color can create, such as with the straps on Charlize Theron’s sexy dress.

Similar to the nude hues, pastels were another “do” on the red carpet. Lupita Nyong’o wore an icy, pale blue dress with a plunging neckline that is sure to be on the best dressed list. The feminine colors are fun for spring and work perfectly with the floral pieces that are also popular.

Surprisingly, several stars were wearing black dresses, including Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts and Anna Kendrick. One of my favorite dresses of the night was Anna Kendrick’s floor-length gown with sheer panels and an open back. Julia Roberts’ sophisticated dress had a similar look, with a plunging neckline, covered up by sheer, black lace.

Amy Adams was a true style inspiration, too, saying that she wore what she wanted to wear and dressed for herself. When you wear what makes you feel pretty and confident it shows :)
