5 Investment Pieces For Winter

It’s pretty rare when I spend more than $100 on clothing, but there are certain investment pieces for winter that I think are completely justified. For Christmas I got the Chateau Parka from J.Crew, which I had been eyeing since last year. It was 40% off over Thanksgiving weekend making it $220 instead of the regular $365. Even that is pretty pricy for me, but it’s a versatile piece of outerwear that I can style with almost any winter outfit, both casual and dressy. Plus the quality is great! My mom laughed about how heavy it is, but I like the material because it keeps you really warm without feeling bulky. And if you aren’t a fan of the fur trim on the hood, no problem because it’s removable! Although I personally love the chic touch it adds! I got some good use out of this coat while we were in Seattle for the holidays. We got a little bit of snow, which I’m not used to living in the desert and all… so the more warm layers the better! Below are a few more investment pieces for winter that I think are worth splurging on.

5 Investment Pieces For Winter:

  1. Classic Coat. Quality is important when it comes to a winter coat because you need it to keep you nice and warm. This is not the time to skimp and buy the cute jacket that is made out of cheap, thin material. Just be sure that it’s a timeless style if you are going to splurge. I felt comfortable paying a lot for this coat because I know it will be fashionable for years to come as there isn’t anything too trendy about it. The neutral color and classic cut make it a very versatile piece. I also live this camel coat, which is made from the same fabric.
  2. Hunter Boots. If you read my post from Monday, you know I’m currently obsessed with my new Hunter boots! I got the original tall rain boot in matte black and they go with everything!    It doesn’t even need to be raining to wear them—they are fashionable and functional if you’re going to be somewhere dusty or muddy (like the pumpkin patch or a simple trail if you’re out exploring). These boots were everywhere when I went to college in Seattle and they haven’t decreased in popularity as most of my favorite bloggers sport them regularly! I definitely don’t see them going out of style anytime soon, so it’s safe to splurge a bit! Plus the quality is much better than most cheap boots, and you don’t want to find that out the hard way when you have wet feet and a ways to walk!
  3. Quilted Vest. This was a new addition to my closet this year and I love how versatile a vest can be! I got the Excursion Quilted Down Vest from J. Crew in an off-white color, which goes with everything. It’s lightweight and pretty slim for a down vest, but it still keeps you really warm. I plan on wearing it over sweaters and flannels quite often! Since winter doesn’t last long here in Vegas, it’s a great layering piece. But if you live somewhere colder, you could also wear it underneath a heavier coat.
  4. Dark Skinny Jeans. These are a staple year-round, but especially during the colder months. They tuck perfectly into boots and balance out oversized sweaters. I gravitate towards darker washes this time of year and love that they can be dressed up or down. I find that you get what you pay for when it comes to designer denim. They last for years and fit like a glove when you find the right brand for your body. I always have good luck at Nordstrom (especially during their sales!) since they have a wide selection of brands like 7 For All Mankind, Paige, AG, Joe’s and Hudson. I wear jeans on a daily basis so I know I will get my money’s worth!
  5. Cashmere Sweater. To be honest I haven’t made this splurge yet, but I plan on checking out the end-of-season sales to possibly add one to my wardrobe. Obviously cashmere is super soft and not itchy like wool, so that’s a major pro. I also like that it’s warm yet lightweight. Plus I’ve heard that it can last a lifetime if you handle it with care. Just make sure to invest in a classic style like v-neck pullovers or cardigans. This pretty blush sweater is 100% cashmere and currently on sale, so I’m thinking about scooping it up!

The coat is really a great investment. Especially for cold winter days! Nordy always has great jeans!

  • That coat is gorgeous! One of my goals lately has been to invest in one or two quality pieces rather than a bunch of cheaper options that won’t last. Maybe Hunter boots should be next on my list – I love how you’ve styled them!
